The story.

On 30 July 2026, iGaming Business reported a warning from the Ethiopian Lottery Service that no sports-betting operators held licences. The article was consulted on 1 October 2026. It is secondary reporting of a dated warning, not a fresh regulator register for every brand.
Separately, Betika Ethiopia’s public page checked on 1 October and again on 5 October carried an indefinite-suspension notice. That is an operator statement about its own service. It does not set a confirmed reopening date, and it should not be applied automatically to another platform.
Three dates are useful when reading a status claim: when an event reportedly happened, when the source published it, and when the source was checked. Refreshing an article’s preparation date does not make the underlying event new.
A market statement helps explain the context. A platform assessment still needs to identify the exact entity, product, domain and time period. Similar names and foreign licences do not fill those gaps. An accessible menu is a product observation rather than evidence of current local permission.
Historical reviews remain useful for identifying older services and separating them from new pages using familiar branding. Retaining a review does not forecast the return of a licence. Our status page links the dated records, while each review keeps its own assessment and evidence limits.
